Campus events raise money for charities

Want to support a good cause while having a laugh at your fellow students, staff and faculty?

Today you will get to do all of those things.

While some people may complain about the small price of six dollars for the Greeks’ Songfest or a dollar or canned good for a soccer game against the University faculty and staff, all proceeds will go to charities.

The proceeds from Songfest will go towards the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, a disease that affects many people on this University and in the world. The proceeds from the soccer game will go to the winning teams’ choice of charity, which is currently unknown and will be announced after the game.

At Songfest, we will see original skit-like performances—including parodies, dance performances and much hilarity—from the University’s Greeks. Much practice and hard work has gone into these performances, and the Greeks need an audience. The show is open to all people who pays six dollars at the door of Stopher Gym, where it will be held.

The faculty/staff vs. Colonel soccer team game will be a great way to have friendly blackmail on certain faculty and staff members who will participate, as we watch them show off their athletic skills—or lack thereof. Laughter and some surprise should be present at the game, which will cost one dollar (or one canned good) that will be donated to the chosen charity.

The Colonels, faculty and staff members have been exchanging friendly fire for about two weeks, and those in attendance will be able to see who is truly superior on the field. However, the main question is not who will win but who should we be rooting for?

Students, faculty and staff should come out to these events to not only support the University but also these fundraising efforts.
