Iradi Blasco is a sophomore student-athlete majoring in kinesiology from Pamplona, Spain, who recently won a bronze medal at the Southland Conference indoor track and field championships in Birmingham, Alabama.
Blasco is a high jumper, who has been competing in track and field for 16 years and has seen much success throughout her career. Her achievements include a personal best jump of 5-feet-10-inches as well as placing seventh overall at the Spanish Athletics Championships and being ranked third in the under 20 age division.
Leading up to this year’s SLC championship, Blasco fought through many injuries that almost ended her season. According to Blasco, she suffered from a bone contusion last year that ended her season early, then at the beginning of last semester, she also suffered a sprained ankle.
“At the beginning of the competition I was really nervous,” said Blasco, “but I knew that I could jump well regardless of the circumstances.”
Blasco would go on to jump a mark of 5-feet-6.5-inches which would secure her spot on the podium as well as scoring her team six points.

Outside of the high jump pit, Blasco enjoys spending time with her friends and teammates as well as occasionally going mountain climbing when back home in Spain.
Blasco isn’t the only one in her family that enjoys jumping over bars either as according to her, her mother was also an elite pole vaulter in her youth.
Looking forward to the outdoor season, Blasco has hopes of jumping even higher than she has before as well as reaching the podium yet again.
