The Nicholls Colonels swept a double header against the Southeastern Baptist Chargers on Tuesday, at Ray E. Didier field.
Game One
The Colonels defeated the Chargers in the first game 7-0.
The Colonels offense set the tone early, after taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning after an errant pitch.
In the second inning, things really picked up for the Colonels. Pitcher Noah Melancon struck out two batters before forcing a third out. Jaxon Milam got the offense rolling with a base hit, Logan Terry hit a double after to score him.

A little later, Terry scored on a play when he and Casey Artigues both stole bases. The Chargers walked Caston Thompson, who scored on a hit from Greyson Shafer to give the Colonels a 6-0 lead.
Melancon went three up, three down on the mound in the top of the third. Fisher Ingersoll led off the bottom of the inning with a triple. Artigues hit a sacrifice fly to make the final score of the game.
Melancon earned his first win of the season as pitcher, striking out four batters and allowing just two hits in four innings. The other two pitchers allowed two hits and had three strikeouts to close out the game for the Colonels.
Artigues said that good gameplanning from coaches and players buying in is what led to the victory.
“Throughout the whole week, we had prepared really well. They had some really good guys up there competing on the mound. And our coaches put together a really good plan to help us to execute and find different ways to score.”
Game Two
The Colonels routed the Chargers in the second game 16-0, in a game where pitchers; Shaydon Benson and Owen Schexnaydre combined to throw a no hitter for the first time since 2023.
Nicholls offense once again started the game strong, scoring four runs on four hits in the first inning. Benson retired the first three batters for the Chargers to end the inning.

After Artigues and Rijo-Berger got on base, Thompson walked to load the bases for the Colonels. Artigues scored on the next play after a fielder’s choice. The Chargers walked Keegan Giger when they hit him with the pitch, he and Carter Jenkins scored on a Shafer double. On the next at bat Jaxon Milam hit a double to score Shafer, giving the Colonels a 4-0 lead.
Milam finished the game with four hits, four RBIs and two runs, putting up an amazing performance.
“We went out there and really just had fun. We got to rest and recuperate and came out here and had a good showing all around. It’s just a great day to play ball,” Milam said.
The Colonels went on to score four runs on four hits in the fourth inning. Thompson brought the lead off Rijo-Berger home with a base hit. Will Mabry – pinch runner for Thompson – scored after a Logan Mock hit. Arigues got walked with the bases loaded to bring in another run pushing the lead to nine for the Colonels.
After another perfect inning for Benson, the Colonels offense continued dominating, scoring five runs in the fifth. Aaron Biediger led off with a double, followed by Andy Miller’s base hit and then a walk from Giger to load the bases. Mabry brought in Miller and Biediger with a single then Giger scored on the last of Milam’s four hits.
Mock continued the barrage, bringing Mabry and Milam home with a single. Biediger brought Mock home then Tyler Johnson brought Hudson Mattox home to score the final run for the Colonels.
The Colonels finished with a combined score of 23-0, giving up no hits in the second game and no errors in either. Head coach Brent Haring said that it is important that the team is working well and limiting mistakes as the season winds down.
“It’s super important, we’ve been playing clean baseball, especially over the last half of the season. So that’s a big, big thing for us,” Haring said.
