The Super Bowl is annually the most watched event in the U.S. It is popular for amazing gameplay, clever advertisements and brilliant performances. Each year the halftime performance is headlined by a new face; just nine artists have performed more than once and only two performed three times making it one of the most coveted gigs in the industry.
This year’s performer is making history as the first Latino and Spanish-speaking artist to headline the Super Bowl halftime show on his own.
Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, or Bad Bunny is a Puerto Rican rapper, singer and producer. He rose to fame in 2016 with his hit song “Diles”, he continued to climb billboards since. From 2020-2022 he was the most streamed artist on spotify, with his fourth album “Un verano Sin Ti” spending 13 weeks atop the charts. That album became the first Spanish album to be nominated for a Grammy Award for Album of the Year and was named best-performing album in 2022.

Since then, Bad Bunny achieved three Grammy Awards, 17 Latin Grammy Awards, eight Billboard Music Awards, 13 Lo Nuestro Awards and was again streamed the most on Spotify in 2025 according to The Sacramento Bee. As the NFL tries to broaden its reach and be more inclusive, having an artist like Bad Bunny headline the halftime show is a great step in that direction.
The California punk rock band Green Day will open for the Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny. The band is known for hits such as “American Idiot” and “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.” A Puerto Rican Sign language performer, Célimar Rivera Cosme will be present at the event as well. With such a unique lineup and strong anticipation surrounding Bad Bunny’s performance, the show could be one of the most-watched performances to date.
