Nicholls runs on more than coffee and Colonel Pride—it runs on community. Whether you’re joining for fun or purpose, here’s your guide to getting involved.
Nicholls offers more than 100 student organizations that let you connect, grow and lead. Whether you join Greek life, the Creative Writing Club, or the Colonel Cats Club—where students care for the campus’s beloved cats—you’ll find your place.
Explore Your Options
Start by visiting the Nicholls student organizations website. The online catalog lists every registered organization on campus and provides short descriptions to help you decide which ones match your interests.
If advocacy and service drive you, check out the Nicholls NAACP Chapter. The group has served the campus since 1998 and continues to inspire students through action. This semester, the chapter hosted its 14th Annual Fashion Show, Colonels Take on the Catwalk, celebrating creativity and culture. Read more about the event here.
You can also find their Instagram handle, @nichollsnaacp, at the bottom of their organization page. Visit their social media to explore upcoming events and connect with members.
Reach Out and Get Connected
After you find an organization that sparks your interest, reach out. Most groups list a chairperson or contact email and stay active on social media. Send a direct message or email to express your interest. Keep your message brief, friendly and professional.
Example message:
“Hi, my name is [Your Name], and I’m interested in learning more about your organization. I’d love to get in touch. Please feel free to reach me at [your email address] or [your phone number].”
Include at least one reliable contact method, and follow up if you don’t receive a response. Follow Up and Get Involved.
If you already know someone in the organization, reach out directly. A quick message or email can help you learn more and show genuine interest. People love sharing their experiences, and a familiar face can make joining feel less intimidating.
Once you’ve made contact, explore what feels like the best fit. Maybe you want to shape campus policy through SGA, write creatively with the Creative Writing Club, or spend time with the Colonel Cats. Follow what excites you, and don’t be afraid to dive in when the opportunity comes.
Take the Leap
College moves fast, but the relationships and experiences you build through involvement last long after graduation. Don’t wait for the perfect time—jump in and participate.
And of course, I couldn’t wrap up a piece about getting involved without mentioning The Nicholls Worth. We’re always looking for new writers, photographers and creatives to join the team.
Even though the semester’s winding down, now’s the perfect time to reach out so you’re ready to jump in next term.
