Updated at 9:54 a.m. on Sep. 29: Water service has been restored to Nicholls campus as of Sep. 28. Classes will remain canceled for Sep. 29, but all staff should report to campus as usual.
Alex Coad sent a follow-up email to Nicholls residents stating, “We’re happy to inform you that significant progress has been made in repairing the pipe that burst last night. You should find that water is starting to be restored.”
He advised that residents with facilities that have tank-style toilets allow the tanks to fill completely before flushing and to be aware of possible pressure changes throughout the morning as the City of Thibodaux adjusts the repaired pipe.
Updated at 3:05 p.m.: Classes the night of Sep. 28 and all day on Sep.29 have been canceled.
According to Jerad David, city crews are still working to repair the water line and are unsure of the exact time it will take. Because of this, the second Fall Break [Oct. 23 -24] has been canceled and will become make-up days in order to stay on track with coursework.
Updated at 1:06 p.m.: The volleyball game tonight will go on as scheduled.
Due to the break in the city water line, Nicholls State University closed its campus for the day until further notice on Sep. 28.
However, for campus residents, a few on campus services will remain open as of now.
No bathrooms are open on Nicholls campus at this point and all classes until 4:20 p.m. have been canceled. No decision has been made on night classes, but an update on that will be provided by 3:00 p.m. today.
According to Margo Badeaux, portalettes will be moved in front of the Bollinger Student Union which is open as normal.
The Nicholls Bookstore is closed as well as the Callais Recreation Center which closed at 11:15 a.m.
The Chick-fil-a on campus will remain open only for to-go orders, but the lobby is closed.
As for on-campus dining services, the cafeteria remains open with no fountain drinks. The food court in the student union will keep its normal hours with no fountain drinks or Starbucks coffee available.
The Grid will remain open and operate within its usual hours as well, but the Brew in the Ellender Memorial Library is closed.
An email was sent out to Nicholls residents from Alex Coad, Director of Housing, advising students to either return home or relocate outside of the affected area for the weekend.
The email stated that residence halls Calecas, Millet, Zeringue, Scholars and Brady, which have tank-style toilets, should have limited use of flushing facilities.
According to Coad, Babington and Ellender Halls will have access to portable toilets near the cafeteria.
As of 11:00 a.m. the decision on the volleyball game tonight versus Southeastern as well as the Stuff Stopher spirit table with the Student Programming Association [SPA] is unknown.
