WGNO pays a visit to Nicholls Wednesday morning to join Grant Ordoyne, senior from Thibodaux on the hunt for “Confused Colonels”.

On Sept. 30, 2015, The Nicholls State University Athletic Department came up with the idea to scour campus in search of students wearing other universities’ attire and make them regret putting it on that morning.

On a daily basis while walking through the quad or in the library, students constantly have on Louisiana State University shirts or hats from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Grant Ordoyne, cheerleaders Kalyn Trahan, Kaitlyn Mistretta, Maggie Benoit and Colonel Tillou decided to take action against these “Confused Colonels” on homecoming week to remind them what university they are enrolled in.

The idea was first introduced by Tyler Knowles, when he was inspired by Florida Atlantic’s video of a student and two cheerleaders searching their campus for students they liked to call “Fowl Owls.” Knowles went to Ordoyne with the idea and wanted to make it their own and that’s when the idea for “Confused Colonels” first came about.

The complete video that was filmed and put together by Zachary Carlton that is three and a half minutes long has reached over 1,200 likes and 104K views on Facebook in only two weeks. The group picked 9 people on campus to embarrass in front of the student body and exhibit the disgrace that they are causing on campus. After they were publicly humiliated with an air horn and megaphone, each Confused Colonel was given a Nicholls t-shirt to remind them what university they attend.

“The video we made is important to student athletes and the Nicholls community during homecoming week because being a colonel and showing your colonel pride is important on campus,” Maggie Benoit said. “My favorite thing about Confused Colonel was the statement that we made, it was more than just a fun thing for us do. The reaction we got back from it was awesome.”

Not only was this movement loved by the people involved, but students who have seen the video enjoyed it just as much or even more.

“I think more stuff like this needs to happen,” Caitlyn Carroll, business administration major said. “Not only is it extremely funny, but it also shows students that we need to have better school pride.”

Students need to remember that since they do not attend Louisiana State University, the University of Alabama, Mississippi State University or the University of Florida, or any other university why wear clothes that represent them while you are on campus? This is something that since I have been here I have never understood. If you come to Nicholls by choice, then do not represent another university.

“The video was hilarious,” Tyler Rebowe, finance major, said. “Seeing people get embarrassed was funny but having pride in your school is important because if we didn’t go here then nobody else would.”
