Brief Happenings

Spring Commencement Record Broken

    On May 14, the University awarded 581 degrees to students completing coursework in the spring semester. It was the largest spring commencement in University history.

Smart Market Open

      The Smart Market, located in the club house of La Maison du Bayou apartments, is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. throughout the summer. Hot breakfast sandwiches, hot dogs, boudin, nachos and cookies are being sold.

Polk Hall being re-roofed

      The roof of Polk Hall, which was damaged in Hurricane Gustav, is being repaired. The expected completion date of the project is Oct. 14, and parking in front of the hall (north side of Ellendale Drive, Polk side) will be disrupted during this time. All should take caution and stay out of any restricted areas when passing or entering the hall.

Peer tutoring provided in tutoring center

Students seeking peer tutoring in summer math and chemistry courses or consultations for written assignments in any subject can make appointments with the University tutoring center. Appointments can be made based upon availability during the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Interested students can call 448-4100 or visit the center at 136 Peltier Hall to set up a scheduled time.

Workshops to familiarize faculty with Moodle will be held:

Summer hours for Cardio Room and Racquetball Court

The cardio room and racquetball court, located near the south entrance of the Student Union, is open from 9:30 am to 8 pm Monday through Friday. Students are reminded to bring their own earphones to watch television while exercising, towels and a valid Colonel Card. No guests are allowed in this area.
