Brief Happenings

Intramural fields to be used starting in October

Campus Recreation will increase programming this year to aid in the transition to the new site. Two intramural sports will be added this semester along with electronic team registration at www.imleague.com/nicholls. New lighted recreation fields will be used starting in October and a majority of flag football games will be played there in the evenings.

Nicholls Apple Awards handed out at Faculty Institute

The university Division of Student Affairs honored teaching faculty for their work with students outside the classroom at Faculty Institute on August 11. The awards  are based on nominations by students, student organizations, faculty and staff and the final selection is made by a committee of Student Affairs staff, two students and an academic dean. Congratulations to the following faculty:

Outstanding Faculty Advisor of a Student Organization – Ms. Denise Mitchell, assistant professor of nursing, Colonels for Life

Outstanding Faculty Mentor – Ms. Jean Donegan, department head and professor of art

Outstanding Faculty Support for Student Activities – Ms. Amanda Eymard, assistant professor of nursing

Outstanding Faculty Merit Award – Ms. Simone Camel, assistant professor and coordinator of dietetics program

Dr. John Lajaunie, professor of finance and economics, was received an award for contributing to the academic success of graduates. The award is given to the faculty member who is most often cited by graduates as having played an important part in shaping their careers as students.

Student Employee Training Seminars to be held September 6 and 7

The Student Employment Office will be conducting our student employee training seminars September 6 and 7 to discuss issues dealing with student employment on campus and some commonly asked questions. All new student employees are required to attend and continuing student employees are encourages to attend at least one training session. The seminars will take play at 5T (1:30) AND 6T (3:00) Tuesday and 7M (2:00) and 8M (3:05) on Wednesday in Le Bijou Theater. All supervisors should allow student employees to attend a seminar during a scheduled work hour. This is a paid training program.

SGA Freshman Senator Elections to be held September 11 through 14

SGA freshman senator elections will take place September 11 through 14. Deadline to submit petitions to the SGA office is August 31.

Homecoming Elections to be held October 2 through 5

Homecoming elections will be held October 2 through 5. Deadline to submit nominees is 4:30 p.m. on September 19.

First SGA meetings of Fall Semester

Students are invited to attend the following meetings:

August 22 – Multi-purpose room of Ellender Memorial Library

– Meet the SGA committee – 2:15 p.m.

– Campus Improvements Committee – 2:45 p.m.

– Finance – 3:00 p.m.

– Judiciary – 3:30 p.m.

SGA General Meeting – 4:00 p.m.

Free Attorney Consultations to be held August 26

Free attorney consultations will be held in the SGA office on August 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Call 985-448-4557 to schedule an appointment.

Roles available for two upcoming Nicholls Players productions

The Nicholls Players will hold auditions for the fall productions of The Great American Trailer Park Musical and The 4th Graders Present an Unnamed Love-Suicide on August 22 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Talbot Theater. All roles in 4th Graders is open. The roles of Norbert and Lin are still open in the Trailer Park musical.
