As the Southland Conference season pushes on, the Nicholls State Colonels women’s basketball team heads on the road to face the East Texas A&M Lions on Thursday, Jan. 31, in what should be a competitive league matchup.
After earning a pair of wins last week, Nicholls is looking to keep its momentum rolling and improve its conference standing. The Colonels recently secured a strong victory over New Orleans and have shown balanced play on both ends of the floor. Graduate standout Marie Kenembeni was recently honored as the Southland Conference Player of the Week, highlighting her importance to Nicholls’ offense and leadership on the court.
East Texas A&M enters the game aiming to make a statement in the Southland Conference. In their first meeting this season, Nicholls dominated with an 80-58 win but the Lions have the home-court advantage this time and will look to tighten up defensively and find consistency on offense to compete with a talented Colonels squad. Historically, Nicholls has had success in this series, but the Lions have shown they can push the Colonels when things click.
Expect this matchup to come down to effort on the boards, turnovers and which team can impose its tempo early. With both teams tied in overall records and hungry for a conference boost, the stakes are high as these Southland rivals prepare to tip off.
