Nicholls State University hosted its 50th Annual Crawfish Day.
Crawfish Day is one of Nicholls’ biggest events of the year. It is organized by the Student Programming Association (SPA).
SPA invited all students, faculty and staff to come out and eat a plate of crawfish. Free games, snacks and live music provide additional entertainment.
Hannah LeBlanc, SPA’s traditional events director, says this year’s “carnival” theme inspired SPA to order inflatables including the returning mechanical bull to create a carnival feel.
LeBlanc said eating crawfish is all part of this event, and that although they cost more than usual, that shouldn’t affect attendees’ enjoyment. That fact did not change how Crawfish Day ended up this year either.
“We didn’t lower crawfish numbers just because of pricing. We knew it was going to be expensive, but it’s Crawfish Day. We aren’t going to deny people crawfish because of the price,” LeBlanc said.
Ann Richard, a freshman business administration student, says that even though the food tasted great, having the opportunity to “get together with friends and bond with live music” made her night memorable.
Russell Varmall, a junior mass communications public relations student, said this is his first year attending Crawfish Day. He said he felt blown away with the food and overall atmosphere of the festival.
“This was my first time attending Crawfish Day, and I had a blast this year. Seeing the student body come out and get together was a spirit lifter for me and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year,” Varmall said.
LeBlanc says she hopes everyone had a good time and continues supporting and coming to SPA events in the foreseeable future.
