While many students living on campus may opt to avoid the communal kitchen —whether for lack of privacy, space, or equipment —most have a microwave in their room. With one common appliance, a few ingredients and a few pieces of kitchen equipment, there is a world of recipes that can be easily made.
For breakfast, dinner and dessert, here are five microwave-only meals!

Oatmeal — The Lemon Bowl
Ingredients
½ cup whole milk
½ cup old-fashioned oats
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
Pinch of salt
Peanut butter
1 banana, sliced
Directions
Place the milk, oats, vanilla, salt, and cinnamon in a microwavable bowl and stir to combine. Microwave on high for 90 seconds for a chewy consistency; continue to microwave for a softer consistency.
Top with peanut butter and banana slices, or other desired toppings.

Quiche in a Bowl — Root Family Review
Ingredients
1 large egg, beaten
1 tablespoon milk
1 tablespoon diced ham
1 teaspoon sliced chives
¼ cup shredded Cheddar
Season to taste with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder
Half a slice of sandwich bread (toasted, if possible)
Directions
Coat the inside of a microwave-safe dish with cooking spray.
Whisk together the egg and milk. Add the ham, chives, cheese, and seasonings. Mix well. Tear toast into small pieces and stir into quiche.
Cook in the microwave, on high, for 30 seconds. Stir. Cook between 40 seconds and 1 minute.
Stir quiche—eggs can be slightly liquid in the middle; they will continue to cook as the edges are stirred inward.
