Going green means adopting practices that prioritize the environment, aiming to conserve and promote renewable energy.
As a campus, there are many things that we can do to promote a healthier planet for ourselves, and for future generations.
When you are buying something, think to yourself: Do I need this? Can I reuse it? Can it be bought used? It is smart to be green when shopping, by asking yourself these questions.
One way is to implement habits of recycling. There are certain trash cans located around campus that are designated for recycling. As students, we should make it a priority to take the extra step to recycle.
Also, we could have educational campaigns and events on campus to catch students’ attention and educate them on why going green is important.
Here at Nicholls, there is an organization called “Keep Nicholls Beautiful”. Their main vision is to inspire and educate the next generation to become agents for environmental issues.
Some of the issues they focus on are waste reduction, recycling, and marine debris.
Keep Nicholls Beautiful has placed and manages recycle bins and water bottle refill stations all around campus.
They also do events around campus to spread awareness. Their main event is Love The Boot Day, which is hosted every year in the Quad.
There are opportunities for faculty and students to visit with environmental organizations to learn more about efforts to preserve our beautiful state.
They held a cleanup where people came together and helped beautify our campus. Also, native plants that were grown at the Nicholls Farm were planted on this day.
To learn more about this organization, you can visit their social media, or the Nicholls website.
By embracing this green lifestyle on our campus, we not only can contribute to the global effort, but we can also create a more healthy and happy community here. The actions that we take today can pave the way for a sustainable tomorrow.
Let’s join together and make our college a model of environmental consciousness for others to follow. Together we can make a difference, one eco-friendly step at a time!
