Nicholls Soccer Comes Up Short on First Road Trip
Now that the season has begun, the Nicholls State Women’s Soccer team has recently completed a west coast road trip.
The Colonels competed in the Outrigger Soccer Kickoff against teams from Hawaii and California. In their first game, the Colonels took on the Hawaii Pacific Sharks.
The game ended in a 0-0 draw. Although the team finished in a draw, they collected their first shutout of the season behind a three-save game from redshirt freshman goalkeeper Megan Cook. The Colonels recorded six shots, and the Sharks had 12 shots.
In their next game, the Colonels faced the University of Hawaii Rainbow Wāhine. The Colonels lost the game with a score of 1-0 after they allowed a goal early in the sixteenth minute.
The Rainbow Wāhine fired 21 shots while Nicholls only shot two, one in each half. The Colonels also recorded six saves in the match.
In the final game of their three-game road trip, the Colonels traveled to Irvine, California to take on the University of California Irvine Anteaters. The Colonels suffered defeat at the hands of the Anteaters with a score of 5-1.
During the game, the Colonels had a total of three shots, which all came in the first half. The Anteaters shot a total of 22 shots, eight in the first half and 14 in the second. Nicholls also had 8 saves in the contest.
The Colonels finished their west coast road trip with a record of 0-3. Be sure to catch the team throughout the season as they continue to compete.
