Nicholls State University volleyball team won three games

The Nicholls State University volleyball team won all three of their games and two players received honors at the Mercer Bears Classic, August 30-31, against Mercer University, Campbell University and Georgia Southern.

Game one: Nicholls (3) v. Mercer (1)

The Colonels fell short during the first set against the Bears, with a score of 17-25. However, for the final three games, the Colonels fought for three wins. The scores were 25-23 for the second set, 25-19 for the third set and 25- 23 for the fourth set. The leading players for the game were Katie Jones, Jackie Alanis, Meghan Wozniak and Emily Venable. Jones led with 16 kills and two assists. Alanis followed with 14 kills, four aces and one assist. Meghan Wozniak earned 45 assists and Venable received 19 digs.

Game two: Nicholls (3) v. Campbell (2)

The Colonels fell just short of wins in the first two sets, losing by scores of  25-22 and 25-20. However, the women did not surrender, fighting and clawing to win the next three sets by scores of 25-23, 27-25 and lastly 15-13. The game leaders were Alanis, Wozniak and Venable. Alanis finished with 17 kills, 1 ace and 1 block, while Wozniak finished with 38 assists and Venable ended with 13 digs.

Game three: Nicholls (3) v. Georgia Southern (1)

The Colonels fell short of a win during their first set, with a score of 25-22, but they rose up and won their final three sets. The scores of the final three matches were 25-22, 31-29 and 25-19. The game leaders were Kate Hoerdemann, Wozniak and Venable. Hoerdemann finished 20 kills and one block, Wozniak, again, finished with 45 assists and Venable gained another 16 digs.

Wozniak was awarded Tournament MVP for her stellar performance, while Venable received membership onto the All-Tournament team.
