SGA announces new Vice President after runoff election

Results of the Nicholls Student Government Association’s runoff for Vice President were announced today in Bollinger Memorial Student Union.

Austin Wendt, a sophomore from Baton Rouge majoring in English, won the SGA vice presidency for the 2016-2017 term. The runoff was another close race with 51 percent of the vote going to Wendt and his opponent, Abigail Ledet, receiving 49 percent.

Wendt said, “I can’t say enough how happy I am with the results we have. We were on par with the first election. Both Abigail’s and my hard work campaigning elicited the response for the runoff turnout.”
Tommy Thibodaux, SGA president-elect, and Wendt have worked together before, both in SGA and their fraternity Kappa Sigma. Wendt said, “We have already developed a working relationship as we were president and vice president of our pledge class.”

Adam Lefort, senior management major from Thibodaux said in regard to the president and vice president elect, “As past student body president and vice president, I met them as freshmen and got a chance to see them grow. I have full faith and confidence that they will serve the Nicholls community well.”

Wendt said, “I want the students to be as proud of the university as I am and I want to help cultivate that culture at Nicholls State as much as possible. I believe Tommy and I are ready to lead the community to make us better than we already are.”
