Junior outfielder Matt Richard is a new addition to the Nicholls baseball team.
The Gonzales native is a junior college transfer from LSU-Eunice where he was awarded All-Region, Third Team All-American and Rawlings National Gold Glove Winner his sophomore season. He said he has enjoyed his time at Nicholls thus far and has high hopes for the team this season.
Q: How long have you been playing baseball?
A: I’ve been playing since I was about four years old.
Q: Do you enjoy playing for Nicholls?
A: I love it. It’s always good to play baseball and the bond between me and the guys here is very strong. I enjoy coming out every day and practicing and playing with these guys.
Q: What are your hopes for the rest of the season?
A: Hopefully we can finish out a good season and continue to play hard and have fun. I’m hoping that things turn out for the best.
Q: Other than baseball, did you participate in any other sports in high school?
A: I played football in high school. I played from about eight years old to senior year.
Q: Do you have any pre-game rituals?
A: There are always a few little things. If you notice that you do something before a game and do well that game, you always try to repeat that and hopefully have the same luck.
Q: Do you have any role models?
A: My parents are most definitely my role models because of everything we have been though. They are so supportive and I know I can go to them for anything.
Q: What is your most memorable moment playing baseball?
A: My most memorable moment playing baseball was two years ago when I was at LSU-Eunice, and we won a national championship.
Q: If not baseball, what would you be doing?
A: I really don’t know. Baseball has been a part of my life for so long that I can’t imagine my life without it.
Q: Who is your favorite professional baseball player?
A: My favorite baseball player would have to be Shane Victorino, the center fielder for the Phillies.
Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years?
A: In ten years I’ll hopefully settle down with a wife and family. I’ll hopefully still be playing baseball, but if not, then living a normal life.
Q: How would you describe yourself?
A: I would describe myself as a very loud, outgoing, person. I love to laugh and make people laugh.
