Six Bayou Region teams extended championship hopes with wins in the first round of the LHSAA state soccer playoffs.
Thibodaux, South Terrebonne, Central Lafourche, Lutcher, Vandebilt and E.D. White advanced in the girls’ soccer bracket.
South Terrebonne narrowly escaped with a 1-0 victory over #17 Livonia.
Central Lafourche advanced after an 8-0 blowout over #28 Beau Chene.
Lutcher faced stout competition against #26 West Feliciana, but the tigers overpowered the Saints, winning 4-0.
Rivals Vandebilt and E.D. White, ranked six and seven in the Division III bracket, won handily in their opening bouts. Vandebilt defeated #27 Bossier 8-0 and E.D. put down #15 Morgan City 13-0.
