The New Orleans Saints fired head coach Dennis Allen on Monday, Nov. 4, according to an X, formerly known as Twitter, post from NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
Allen’s departure comes on the heels of a now seven-game losing streak, extended by a 23-22 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Nov. 3.
The now-former head coach came into the season with a 16-18 record as the Saints’ head coach, boosting that record to even with blowout wins in weeks one and two to make him 18-18 as Saints head coach.
However, Allen and the Saints soon began a downward spiral, stunted by injuries in a week three loss to the Eagles and never recovered.
News of the head coach’s departure comes just one day ahead of the NFL’s trade deadline.
