Nicholls State University football defeated Southeastern Louisiana University 21-16 in the River Bell Classic.
Nicholls took home the River Bell Trophy and became the outright Southland Conference champions.
Nicholls faced a few losses on the defensive side.
Jordan Jackson and Ethan Lee were ejected and Kershawn Fisher was injured in the first half.
Nicholls quarterback Pat McQuaid said it’s the next man up mentality that kept them going after the losses on defense.
“It’s just the next man up,” McQuaid said. “We had guys that kept fighting and kept punching. We just aren’t gonna quit.”
McQuaide threw for his second 300-yard game of the season and added two touchdowns.
Nicholls’ defense allowed 218 yards, the lowest yard total of the season.
Nicholls’ first-round playoff opponent will be determined during the Football Championship Subdivision playoff selection show on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 11 a.m.
