The Nicholls State University football team lost to Texas Christian University by a score of 41-6.
With the loss, Nicholls drops to 0-2 entering a bye week.
Nicholls recorded 263 total yards, 177 passing and 83 rushing yards. Quarterback Pat McQuaide went 17 for 36, throwing for 177 yards and one interception.
Wide receiver Neno Lemay led the team in receiving with eight catches for 100 yards.
The only two scores for the Colonels came from kicker Gavin Lasseigne. Lasseigne made a 40-yard field goal in the second quarter and a 47-yard field goal in the third quarter.
TCU recorded 442 total yards, throwing for 313 yards, and rushing for 129 yards.
TCU Quarterback Chandler Morris played almost the entire game, throwing for 263 yards, and two touchdowns, while only throwing four incompletions. He also ran six times for 63 yards and a touchdown.
The first score of the game came four minutes into the game when TCU’s Trent Battle blocked Kylin Dupre’s punt, and was returned 24 yards by Blake Nowell for a TCU touchdown.
The next points came with just over a minute left in the first quarter when TCU quarterback Chandler Morris ran for a 32-yard touchdown to make the score 14-0.
TCU scored again with 10:43 left in the second quarter. The score came on a Morris pass to Jaylen Robinson for a 14-yard touchdown, making the score 21-0.
Nicholls Linebacker Kershawn Fischer, who had one interception last week, recovered a fumble at the Nicholls 10-yard-line with 5:23 left in the half.
11 plays later, the drive ended with the first points for the Colonels, when Gavin Lasseigne made a 40-yard field goal with 31 seconds left in the half, making the score 21-3. A touchdown was called back for Nicholls during the drive when running back Tyren Montgomery drew a flag for offensive pass interference.
TCU answered back before the half was finished, going down the field and having kicker Griffin Kell attempt a 57-yard field goal, which went through the goalposts as time expired in the first half. The field goal made the score 24-3.
With just under three minutes left in the third quarter, Nicholls kicker Gavin Lasseigne made a 47-yard field goal to make the score 24-6.
The fourth quarter saw TCU score 17 points to finish the game.
With 10:15 left, TCU quarterback Chandler Morris threw a 4-yard touchdown to JoJo Earle, raising the score to 31-6.
With 6:31 left, Griffin Kell made a 47-yard field goal for TCU that extended its lead by three, making the score 34-6.
Two plays after the field goal, Colonels’running back Jaylon Spears fumbled the ball at the Nicholls 31-yard-line. The ball was picked up by TCU’s Chace Biddle for a 5-yard return.
TCU’s backup quarterback Josh Hoover entered the game with 6:16 left and finished the game for the Horned Frogs.
Two plays into Hoover’s first drive, Nicholls defensive back Jordan Jackson picked him off and gave the ball to the Colonels with 5:45 remaining in the game.
On a 4th & 14, quarterback Pat McQuaide was sacked by TCU’s Markis Deal and Rick D’Abreu, turning the ball over to the Horned Frogs with 1:31 remaining.
TCU put up one more touchdown on a Jake Hoover pass to Jordyn Bailey for 34 yards and a score with 48 seconds left.
Nicholls’ next game will be against the University of Tulane in New Orleans on Sept. 23.
