On Saturday, Aug. 26 the Nicholls State University volleyball team took on the Oral Roberts University Golden Eagles.
Nicholls opened the scoring in set one on an Oral Roberts attack error. The teams would trade points until Nicholls sparked a 5-1 run on an Oral Roberts service error.
After going up 12-10 the Golden Eagles took control of the game with a run of their own, scoring seven unanswered.
The Colonels scored six points the rest of the set leading to a 25-18 win for the Golden Eagles in set one.
Nicholls looked to even the score in set two, scoring the first two points in the set
The Colonels did not keep the lead for long as the Golden Eagles went on a 5-1 run to take a two-point lead over the Colonels.
Nicholls ended the run on an Autumn Perry kill, but the team could not take control of the set and fell 25-10 in set two.
Oral Roberts opened the scoring in set three with five unanswered points.
Nicholls kept pace with Oral Roberts, staying within six points until an Oral Roberts kill extended the team’s lead to 17-9.
The Colonels were unable to re-establish a rhythm after the Golden Eagles extended their lead.
Nicholls scored four of the last 12 points and dropped set three 25-13, losing the game 3-0.
Autumn Perry and Kendall Battistella were standouts in the game.
Perry led the team in aces with two and digs with 11.
Battistella was number two on the team in assists with seven and digs with nine.
New Head Coach Jonea Rima ends her first weekend of the regular season with a 1-2 record, the lone win coming against the University of Portland on Friday.
