Week 16 of the National Football League ended with more teams clinching playoff spots and others that will have to wait until after week 17’s games to know whether they will have a spot in the playoffs. 

Week 16 began Christmas Day with a matchup between the New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings. The Saints won the game 52-33.

On Saturday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Detroit Lions 47-7. In a National Football Conference West matchup, the San Francisco 49ers won their game against the Arizona Cardinals 20-12. The Miami Dolphins beat the Las Vegas Raiders 26-20. 

On Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens won their game against the New York Giants 27-13. The New York Jets upset the Cleveland Browns, 23-16, to get their second win of the season. The Chicago Bears defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 41-17. The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Atlanta Falcons 17-14. 

The Cincinnati Bengals won their game against the Houston Texans 37-31. The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Indianapolis Colts 28-24. The Carolina Panthers won their game against the Washington Football Team 20-13. 

The Los Angeles Chargers won their game against their American Football Conference West rivals the Denver Broncos 19-16. The Dallas Cowboys won their game against their NFC East rivals the Philadelphia Eagles 37-17. The Seattle Seahawks beat their NFC West rivals the Los Angeles Rams 20-9. 

The Green Bay Packers defeated the Tennessee Titans 40-14. 

In a Monday night AFC East matchup, the Buffalo Bills defeated the New England Patriots 38-9. 

The AFC playoff standings are the Bills, who have clinched the AFC East division spot; the Chiefs, who have clinched the AFC West division spot and a first-round bye week; the Steelers, who have clinched the AFC North division spot. 

Week 17 will decide whether the Colts or the Titans clinch the AFC South division spot. There is still a chance for the team that does not clinch the AFC South spot to have a place in the playoffs. The Ravens, Browns and Dolphins are still looking to clinch spots in the playoffs as well. 

The NFC playoff standings are the Packers, who have clinched the NFC North division spot; the Saints, who have clinched the NFC South division spot; the Seahawks, who have clinched the NFC West division spot. The Buccaneers have also clinched a spot in the playoffs. 

Week 17 will decide whether the Packers, Saints or Seahawks have a first-round bye week. The Cowboys, Washington and Giants are competing in week 17 for the NFC East playoff spot. Other NFC teams looking to clinch playoff spots are the Cardinals, Bears and Rams. 

All week 17 games are Sunday, Jan. 3.
