Football is staying positive after ULL loss

Louisiana Lafayette imposed their will on Nicholls this past weekend as the Colonels fell to 1-2 in a 70-7 defeat.
The Ragin’ Cajuns played a record setting game against Nicholls last weekend.  The team set an all-time record for rushing touchdowns and tied their current record for total touchdowns in a game. Seven of the ten touchdowns made by the Cajuns took place in the first half.  The Colonels narrowly escaped a complete shutout with their single touchdown, completed by junior wide receiver Demon Bolt in the second half.
Sophomore wide receiver Xavier Marcus led the team in receiving yards with 54 for the game. His most impressive move of the evening was completing a 33-yard diving catch in the second quarter, putting the Colonels in the red zone. The play gave Marcus and his teammates some much needed positive energy. “After that play, I was extremely pumped. Everybody got pumped,” he said. However, positive energy was not enough to put points on the board. The team’s offense clearly suffered without standout quarterback Kalen Henderson on the field. Marcus recognized that, saying, “Our offense is the spark of the team, and if our offense doesn’t do well, the team doesn’t do well.”
Sophomore quarterback Dash Duncan made his collegiate debut in Lafayette. He believes the offense and defense are equally to blame for the outcome of the game. “If you want to win, you have to score more than 7, and if you want to win, you have to hold them for less than 70,” he said.
The team is aware that dwelling on the past serves little purpose. Duncan has his sights set on the game against National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Langston University. “What ULL did to us, we will do to Langston,” he said. Kick off for the Colonels’ first home game is scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m.
