Shane Smith, elementary education sophomore from New Orleans, fills in the duty log on Tuesday in Millet Hall, where he works as a resident assistant.

While attending to his education, Shane Smith, elementary education sophomore dedicates spare time to serving the campus.

Smith is involved in Nicholls’ Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship organization where he discusses God and prayer with students.

To show the current happenings of what the organization is doing for the campus, Chi Alpha set up a film production called Chi Alpha Rebel Films.   Smith is an actor in the production.

In addition to spreading the word of God to the campus, Smith is also a resident assistant in Millet Hall.

“I have always felt the need to help people and the RA position was a great opportunity to serve the campus,” Smith said.

Smith goes on to say that this is his third semester as an RA.

When Smith finds the time, he enjoys hanging around campus and talking with people he does not know to experience different cultures.

Many people do not know that when Smith was accepted into Nicholls, he immediately changed his major from culinary to elementary education.

“I changed majors because education majors interact with a lot of kids and I love interacting with people,” Smith said.

Smith’s high school physics teacher inspired him to change majors by doing community service with helping younger students in school.

Q: If your life were a song, what would you title it?

A: I would title it “On My Way.”

Q: What do you think has been the greatest invention so far?

A: Definitely the computer because of Facebook.  It is the best thing ever!

Q: If you could change the world, what would you do?

A: Bring together different cultures to have world peace.  I know it is cliché, but it is what I want.

Q: If you could become a video game character, which would you be?

A: Link!  I’ve been playing Zelda since I was a kid and Link is just awesome.

Q: Do you have anyone that inspires you?

A: Michael Dunkley.  I met him when I was doing community service with the school.  He showed me different techniques in dealing with kids.

Q: What are your pet peeves?

A: When babies cry.  Also when grown people complain.  They need to just deal with it.

Q: What is one thing you miss as a kid?

A: I miss being carefree.  I did not have to pay taxes back then.

Q: Do you believe in aliens or life on other planets?

A:  No, but I do believe it is a bunch of boloney.

Q: How much time do you spend on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube?

A: I spend probably four hours, but most of that time is on Facebook.

Q: What are you looking forward to most in 2011?

A: I am looking forward to being more involved with Chi Alpha.
