McBeath awarded with Freshman of the Year

Sam McBeath, freshman from Sydney, Australia, started his basketball career here at Nicholls with a hungry mindset.

McBeath was recently named the College Sports Madness Freshman of the Year in the Southland Conference. This is McBeath’s first award after only his first season here in Thibodaux.

“I had no clue I was given the award until someone woke me up during spring break. It was exciting, an honor,” McBeath said.

McBeath finished the season third on the team in scoring with 217 points and second in rebounds with 129 boards. McBeath said that this first season definitely showed him room for improvement in areas he personally felt he could have been stronger.

As for the team, “I want us to win and maintain our toughness throughout next season and to stay close-knit and work hard,” McBeath said. “We have the talent.”
