Nicholls students and members of the community are invited to the fourth annual Thibodaux Arts Walk festival in Historic Downtown Thibodaux on April 9.
The Thibodaux Main Street is putting on the festival. It is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the revitalization and promotion of Historic Downtown Thibodaux.
“It’s a festival of the arts featuring live music, local artists and local authors,” Cody Blanchard, executive director of Thibodaux Main Street and Nicholls alumnus, said.
“The types of art range from paintings, sculpture, drawings, photography, original jewelry and much more.”
The events will take place in Historic Downtown Thibodaux on April 9 and will last from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with live music after from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. The band that will be playing is called Voodoo Bayou.
“They play a variety of music,” Blanchard said. “It will fit in perfectly since this is an art festival.”
The Downtown Thibodaux Arts Walk began in 2008 and has been going on for the past four years.
“Everything this year will be very similar to the past years,” Blanchard said. “The biggest difference is that there will be a main stage this year rather than several small stages.”
This is also the first time that the festival will be held on a Saturday.
“It used to be on Friday, but we decided to move it to Saturday this year,” Blanchard said. “It would be easier for people to come from two to eight on a Saturday rather than from five to eight on a Friday.”
Blanchard said that the Nicholls Art Department has participated in the festival in past years and should also be in this year’s event.
“We spoke to the Art Department, and we want any student, faculty or staff member to contact us if they want to participate,” Blanchard said.
“The event as a whole is about promoting local artists, the arts and Downtown Thibodaux,” Blanchard said.
