Nicholls head football coach Tommy Rybacki held his weekly radio show alongside radio host David Miller at 6 p.m. Monday at Big Mike’s BBQ Smokehouse in Thibodaux.
The show is sponsored by the Thibodaux Regional Health System and follows the tradition of Nicholls’ last head football coach, Tim Rebowe, who held the Tim Rebowe Radio Show at Big Mike’s last season.
The show airs live on KCIL 96.7 FM and is outside the restaurant in the beer garden every week after each Nicholl’s football game. The event features a limited game-day menu and is open to everyone.
This Week’s Game Recap
Coach Rybacki started the show speaking on the Colonels’ most recent game against the Lamar Cardinals in which the team fell 24-17.
Coach Rybacki described the loss as “disappointing”, but was proud of his players who stepped up.
“The game as a whole was definitely a missed opportunity,” Rybacki said. “A game that we could’ve won, so we’re disappointed obviously with the result, but very proud of a lot of guys stepping up.”
Both running backs Shane Lee and Miequle Brock Jr. left the games with injuries, which allowed for the leading touchdown scorer in Louisiana high school football history, Freshman Jonathan Dartez.
Freshman Kayden Andoh also saw the field and took the majority of snaps. Many new players saw the field. In fact, Coach Rybacki mentioned over 20 freshmen saw play in Saturday’s game.
Looking Forward to Future Weeks
The Colonels get much-needed rest this week with a bye and then travel to Nacogdoches, Texas, the following Saturday to play 4-2 Stephen F. Austin.
Coach Rybacki talked about how the team is preparing for the last of a 4-game road stretch.
“Our guys need to focus on what’s important in the game plan and apply our scheme,” Rybacki said. “They need to work hard at getting these things down until they can’t get them wrong. That will give us the best opportunity for us to be successful.”
Rybacki spoke on “controlling the controllables” and said the team hasn’t put much concern into the long road stretch.
“Our job is to prepare and play the game,” Rybacki said. “That’s what we’re going to do.”
The Coach Rybacki Radio Show will be back in two weeks on Oct. 20 after the Stephen F. Austin matchup.
