Multiple historically Black colleges and universities were placed on lockdown Thursday after receiving what authorities described as terrorist threats.
The universities include Alabama State University, Virginia State University, Hampton University in Virginia, Southern University in Louisiana and Clark Atlanta University in Georgia.
Spelman College, located near Clark Atlanta University, implemented shelter-in-place protocols as a precautionary measure due to proximity.
The universities have cancelled all activities until next week and advise students and faculty to remain cautious.
The threats came one day after the assassination of Turning Point USA Chief Executive Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. They also followed a school shooting that took place at Evergreen High School in Colorado, which left two teens injured and the shooter dead.
The alleged threats follow a history of threats to HBCUs in the past several years.
In 2022, multiple schools received anonymous bomb threats, causing shelter-in-place notices or evacuations of the majority-Black institutions, according to ABC News.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.
