The Nicholls State University baseball team dominated the Texas A&M–Corpus Christi Islanders on the way to a 15-3 victory to clinch the three-game Southland Conference series on March 8.

Saturday’s win comes after the Colonels pulled off an electric come-from-behind victory over the Islanders to open the series on Friday night. They scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth for a walk-off 3-2 win.

After a stalemate in the first inning, the Colonels got on board in the second inning via a Logan Mock  RBI double that sent Aaron Biediger home. Biediger scored two more times in an 11-0 run for Nicholls through the first five innings.

The Colonels pitching staff  neared a shutout with Louisiana Tech transfer Alec Sparks allowing six hits through 6.1 innings. Sparks finished with six strikeouts on 102 pitches.

Four pitcher took the mound for the Islanders, combining for an 53.70 ERA. Starter Luke Singleton’s appearance ended after throwing 58 pitches over 2.1 innings.

The Islanders would get on the board in the top of the sixth inning after third baseman Karson Krowka singled up the middle for an RBI that sent second baseman Cade Sanchez home. They added two unearned runs in the seventh inning.

Nicholls redshirt sophomore Fisher Ingersoll ended any chance of an Islanders’ comeback with a walk-off three-run homer to right field.

All eleven hitters for the Colonels finished the game with at least one run.

Saturday’s win gives the Colonels back-to-back wins for the first time since their series sweep of Little Rock two weeks ago. The Colonels improve their record to 7-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play with the win.

The Colonels look to keep their momentum to finish the series against the Islanders before traveling for a rematch against in-state opponent Tulane on March 11 at 6:30 p.m.
