THIBODAUX — A 24-8 run to open the second half helped Northwestern State University end Nicholls’ four-game wining streak.

The Nicholls State University men’s basketball team fell to Northwestern State 72-60 in the final game of their four game home stand.

The Demons’ hot start built upon a strong finish to the first half, ending the opening period on an 11-5 run to draw within six points.

Offense and defense were a struggle for the Colonels who went a lackluster 25% from the field and gave up 21 free throws to the visiting Demons.

Michael Gray Jr., the Colonels leading scorer with 19 points, said a combination of offensive and defensive struggles are to blame for the loss.

Although a tough loss, he believes the Colonels are in a good position ahead of post-season play. He said the team just needs to focus on winning.

“We’re still in a good place, we just gotta win games now. We’re making it harder on ourselves not winning the games we should win,” Gray Jr. said.

The Colonels tip off a two-game road trip at Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday before heading to face the University of New Orleans on Monday.

They return to Thibodaux on Saturday, Feb. 22 for the Senior Day game against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
