A story the 2024 Nicholls football team knows all too well unfolded yet again on Saturday.
A strong defensive start marred by an inability to succeed on offense.
The Colonels lost to Lamar 24-7 in their final road matchup of the season on Saturday, Nov. 16.
Nicholls’ defense did not allow a touchdown in the first half, with Lamar’s only touchdown coming on a punt return less than 6 minutes into the first quarter.
Despite remaining scoreless late into the first half, the Colonels saw momentum swing to their side following a fumbled snap on an attempted punt.
Nicholls’ punter Kylin Dupre picked up the ball after dropping it then ran for 11 yards to pick up a first down.
Quarterback Pat McQuaide ended the drive with a 19-yard touchdown pass to receiver Jackson Dufrene.
Nicholls’ offense failed to keep momentum in the final half, instead watching Lamar pull away with a touchdown in both the third and fourth quarters.
The offensive inefficiency showed in the box score as well.
McQuaide threw for 151 yards and 3 interceptions, on the ground the Colonels mustered only 68 yards, one of their lowest outputs this season
It only gets tougher for the Colonels as they close out the season with a short week ahead of their Thursday night season finale in the Riverbell Classic against rival Southeastern Louisiana.
