The Nicholls State University football team lost 44-21 against LSU in the teams’ first meeting.
LSU used a 21-point third quarter to pull away from the Colonels to take their first win of the season.
LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier headlined the game with six passing touchdowns. Nussmeier went 27/37 and threw for 302 yards.
Starting receiver Kyren Lacy caught three of Nussmeier’s six touchdown passes.
Lacy caught a 32-yard touchdown with 12:17 in the second quarter then caught six and seven-yard touchdowns on consecutive drives in the third quarter.
Nicholls’ running back Collin Guggenheim led the way for the Colonels with 145 yards on 25 rushes and two rushing touchdowns.
Guggenheim scored a touchdown on a 67-yard rush, the longest offensive play of the game, early in the third quarter.
Nicholls finishes its road trip on Saturday with a game against Sacramento State in Sacramento, Calif.
The game kicks off Saturday at 8 p.m.
