“Love the Boot Week,” which is taking place this Apr. 20-28, is a state-wide event hosted by Keep Louisiana Beautiful aimed at the beautification and cleanup of Louisiana.
According to its website, the goals of “Love the Boot Week” include “Litter Removal,” “Beautification,” “Education,” and “Recycling.” Several different areas of Louisiana are committed to making a difference in their communities by achieving these goals, whether it is by planting native plants, picking up litter, or educating the public on ways to recycle.
Keep Nicholls Beautiful (KNB) has been an affiliate of Keep Louisiana Beautiful since 2022. This year it plans on celebrating “Love the Boot Week” on Apr. 22.
Dr. Mary Jackson, chair of KNB, has a whole day of events planned for the 22nd. There will be an expo taking place in the Quad from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m followed by a litter clean-up from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Gabrielle Chaisson, a Mass Communications student reporting on the expo, said that “Environmental groups and student organizations will have various tables sharing information on conservation efforts.”
These groups will include Restore or Retreat, the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP), and campus organizations such as the Green Club, the Student Government Organization (SGA), and the Department of Mass Communications.
“I want everyone on campus to know about Keep Nicholls Beautiful,” Jackson said, “so that they look on our website and our social media to learn how to take care of the environment.”
If anyone is interested in participating in beautification this Earth Day and cannot make it to the Nicholls “Love the Boot” event, there are opportunities on the Love the Boot website where people can sign up for events within their area.
