How to guide: advising and scheduling classes

How+to+guide%3A+advising+and+scheduling+classes

With class scheduling right around the corner, here are a few things that are important to know when going into this week.

Everyone has an advisor, and you should receive an email from them during the semester about setting up a meeting. Whether you are a freshman or a senior, you should always meet with your advisor. They are individuals who want to assist you in achieving your goals.

On your Nicholls Banner account, you are able to go explore your choices and create course plans best suited for you.

David Ford, an academic advisor here on campus, spoke on the importance of being prepared for your scheduling day.

As registration approaches, keep an eye on which classes are still available versus those that may be closed. Keep an open mind when it comes to instructors, days and times. Explore your options,” Ford said.

Make sure you know in advance which day you are scheduling on, because you want to schedule as soon as possible. When it hits 6 am on your designated day, you are able to begin selecting and scheduling your courses.

You do not want to wait or push it to the side the day of. If you do this, you may not get into some of the classes you desired to.

You may get waitlisted, but that is okay! Your spot may open up, so be patient. You should monitor your email during this time, because you may be emailed about an opening.

David Ford also stated, “If you run into any issues or concerns, reach out to your advisor. It could be an easy fix. Don’t register for a course you and your advisor didn’t discuss. If you need alternate course recommendations, ask!”

There are many reasons that you can schedule an appointment. These are a few:

  • Looking for answers for questions about your academic progress.

  • When you are considering changing your major.

  • When you are wanting to drop a class.

  • When you are exploring career possibilities and want further insight.

The scheduling period for next semester begins on April 9 for graduating seniors and continues throughout the week for all other students. If you have any further questions or need help with your schedule, you can go to 234 Elkins Hall to receive assistance, or you can contact 985-448-4117.
