Lincoln, Neb. – Nicholls baseball opened its first road weekend series with a 7- 6 loss to the University of Nebraska on Friday.
The loss gives Nicholls its first loss in a weekend series and ends its streak of four weekend series sweeps.
Nicholls saw the one-run game end in the top of the ninth inning after infielder Garrett Felix grounded into a double play to second base.
Nebraska opened the scoring with a three-run home run hit by catcher Josh Caron.
Two Basiel Williams and Kaden Amundson RBIs cut the Nebraska lead to one run in the fifth inning.
Nebraska responded in the fifth and sixth innings with two runs to extend its lead by three.
Nicholls’ two seventh-inning runs closed the gap back to one, but a run in the bottom half of the inning gave Nebraska a two-run lead that Nicholls could not overcome.
Nicholls ended the scoring on a wild pitch that drove in second baseman MaCrae Kendrick.
First pitch for game two is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday at Haymarket Park in Lincoln, Neb.
