PRISM is active at Nicholls State University.
PRISM is a newer and developing student organization. It is Nicholls’ Gay-Straight Alliance or Gender-Sexuality Alliance. It focuses on providing a welcoming community for LGBTQ+ students.
Braxton Dupre, president of PRISM, says this organization is used to expand the LGBTQ+ community’s presence on campus. Dupre believes the events PRISM hosts ensures this and creates a safe environment for all students at Nicholls.
PRIMS held a general meeting on March 5, 2024. Dupre says these gatherings allow members to talk about upcoming events and plans for PRISM. “It gives us a chance to take others’ opinions and make an event that we all like,” Dupre stated.
A PRISM bake sale is set for March 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Donald G. Bollinger Memorial Student Union on Nicholls campus. A table will be selling baked goods such as peanut butter fudge, cupcakes, cookies and more. Cash, PayPal, and Venmo are the methods of payment PRISM uses.
Another upcoming event is PRISM’s Drag Competition. After seeing the success of last year’s competition, they decided to hold another one this year. A date is yet to be officially determined and announced.
