THIBODAUX – Nicholls State University Athletics announced on Friday, Dec. 1 that women’s basketball forward Lexi Alexander was named the “D-Fence Player of the Month”.
The award, sponsored by St. Pierre Fence Co. of Vacherie, is given monthly to an over-achieving Nicholls athlete.
Alexander, a 6-foot sophomore from Round Rock, Texas, has recorded 98 points, 49 rebounds, 14 steals, and four blocks in the first nine games of the season, which earned her the honor.
Alexander is averaging 13.8 points and 8.4 rebounds per game this season.
Alexander recorded numerous season highs during the early part of the season.
Alexander recorded her first of two double-doubles, recording 19 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals in the season opener against North American University on Nov. 6
Alexander also recorded six steals against Eastern Illinois on Nov. 24.
Alexander said that being around her teammates and coaches helps her perform at a high level.
“You can’t be selfish in the game of basketball,” Alexander said. “Being surrounded by people that make me wanna work harder, makes me wanna do the little things like rebounding and stealing for them.”
Alexander said working even harder will help her make more defensive plays, something she said that she’s been doing all offseason and even during the season.
“People are gonna keep expecting [certain] things that I’m gonna do,” Alexander said. “I’m just gonna keep catching them by surprise and keep working for my team.”
