Nicholls falls to McNeese in straight sets for 10th conference loss

Nicholls State University’s indoor volleyball team lost in straight sets against McNeese State University on Oct. 24.

The loss to McNeese is Nicholls’ 13th loss without winning a set this season.

Nicholls is now 3-19 overall and 1-10 in conference play.

Gracie Campbell led Nicholls with 11 kills and 10 digs, giving her five double-doubles on the season.

The teams traded points early in set one until Autumn Perry jumpstarted a Nicholls’ run after McNeese took a 5-4 lead.

Perry was responsible for every score in the 5-0 run.

She had three consecutive kills and recorded two blocks during the stretch.

Perry ended the game with six kills, four digs and 8.5 points. She tied for the lead in total blocks with 1.5.

Nicholls kept a lead as the teams traded points until it pulled out to a 16-13 lead.

After Nicholls took the 16-13 lead, McNeese went on its longest run of the game.

The 11-1 McNeese run stunned Nicholls and gave McNeese the first set 25-17.

In set two Nicholls’ inability to stack scores together plagued them.

After Nicholls took a 2-1 lead early in the set, McNeese scored three straight to take 4-2.

Nichols would tie the set up with back-to-back points but could not retake the lead.

Nicholls kept the set close, cutting the McNeese lead down to two points before the Cowgirls pulled away.

McNeese pulled out to a 19-14 lead and kept a 5+ point advantage for the remainder of set two

McNeese took set two 25-19.

Nicholls went down 6-3 early in set three and could not find a way to take an advantage over McNeese in the set.

After Nicholls cut the lead down to two at 10-8, McNeese started to pull away and did not let Nicholls within two points again.

McNeese went on a 7-2 run and outscored Nicholls 15-10 to end the set.

McNeese won the match, outscoring Nicholls by 21 in the three sets.
