Nicholls Running back Collin Guggenheim (#19) is seen running through a tackle against Tulane (9/23/2023)

Nicholls Tight End Connor Venetis came away from Saturday’s loss to Tulane with a concussion.

The Tight End confirmed the news of his concussion on Monday to Nicholls Worth reporters.

Venetis was hit near the end of a play during the Colonel’s first drive of the second half. Immediately after the hit, the tight end was seen face down on the turf, grabbing at his helmet.

Team staff came out to walk Ventis off the field following the play.

The play would lead to an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Nicholls’ Head Coach Tim Rebowe who yelled at the referees as he believed the hit was a cheapshot on Venetis.

“I still have a headache and feel pretty bad, but definitely better than Saturday,” Venetis said.

Venetis says he is out for the week but can practice next week.

The tight end remains hopeful that he will be able to play in Nicholls’ Homecoming Game against Houston Christian University on Sept. 7.

The Colonels will face off against McNeese State University in their conference opener this week. The game in Lake Charles, La. will be broadcast on ESPN+ at 7 p.m. on Oct. 30.
