This week’s Genesis Physical Therapy Player of The Week is Erin Krause. Krause is a freshman athlete on the Nicholls State University softball team.

She won this week’s honors for her performance against Texas A&M-Commerce last weekend.

Krause had seven hits, four runs, two runs batted in, and one stolen base during the weekend series. Her output led the Colonels to a conference series win.

Krause attended school at Cypress Woods High School in Cypress Woods, Tx. At Cypress Woods, Krause batted for an average of .523, scored 45 runs, and had 19 RBI. Krause was selected First-Team All-District three times and was named an All-State Honorable Mention in 2021.

Krause has focused on academics throughout her career, as she was an academic All-State selection and graduated summa cum laude while being a member of the Health Occupations Students of America.

“[Academics] are pretty important,” Krause said. “That’s why I chose a school like [Nicholls] so I could play softball and go to a school that cares about [academics].”

Krause is majoring in allied health and hopes to become a physician’s assistant and work in a burn unit or in skin care.

Coaches have noticed that her work ethic academically translates to her play on the field.

“She has great habits on and off the field, and that’s what we look for,” Coach Lewis said.”She’s a high achiever and doesn’t settle for good enough; you see that because when someone gets that kind of a GPA. then you know that’s probably going to translate onto the softball field.”

Coming out of high school, Lewis said, she was a victim of the extra COVID year for collegiate athletes.

“We were able to get some kids like her [Krause] […]because they were kind of overlooked,” Lewis said. “I think she had some offers, but again she was overlooked.”

Adding to her personal work ethic, Krause does her best to help the team. This showed itself one day when Lewis saw Krause giving hitting advice to a senior.

“I remember in one of our early away games, during a timeout, after a double [Krause] was giving Melise [Gossen] hitting advice, then Melise hit a home run right after,” Lewis said.

The coaching staff is filled with nothing but praise for who Krause has been and excitement for who she could become as both a player and a person
