Nicholls Drops Two Games Against Louisiana-Monroe
The Nicholls State University softball team played three-game home series this weekend against the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
The Colonels went into the series with a 12-6 overall record.
In the third inning of game one, ULM scored the first run of the game, but Brianna McFaddin would tie the game by running home off of a Claire Sisco single.
ULM drove in three runs in the last two innings, two of those runs were scored in the seventh inning.
The Colonel’s scored two runs in bottom half of the seventh inning, but it was not enough to win.
The final score was 4-3 and dropped Nicholls’ record to 12-7.
A Saturday doubleheader gave Nicholls their first and only win of the series in the first game of the doubleheader.
Melise Gossen scored the game’s only run by stealing home plate after a wild pitch in the second inning.
Pitcher Molly Yoo pitched all seven innings with no runs allowed and led all pitchers in strike outs with four. The complete shutout by Yoo led the Colonels to a 1-0 win.
Game two saw Nicholls score in the first inning from a Melise Gosen single that brought Abby Andersen in to score.
ULM would respond within the third inning when Jacelyn Buck ran in from third on a fielders choice.
ULM scored again in fifth and sixth innings. The Colonels scored their second run of the game in the seventh inning, but could not get another.
The final score was 3-2 in favor of ULM. With the win, ULM won the series 2-1.
After the three-game series, Nicholls’ record stands at 13-8.
The Colonels play their next games at home in a doubleheader against Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday, March 7. The first game starts at 12:00 p.m.
