Genesis Physical Therapy Co-Player of the Week: Chase Gearing
The Genesis Co-Player of the Week is Chase Gearing.
Gearing is a Senior pitcher for the Nicholls State University baseball team.
The pitcher won player of the week honors for his performance against Lindenwood University on Friday, Feb. 17.
Gearing relieved starting pitcher Tyler Theriot in the sixth inning and kept the shutout going until he was taken out of the game after the eighth inning. In his three innings pitched, Gearing, struck out seven batters and allowed no hits.
Gearing is from Troy, Mich., and went to Bishop Foley High School where he played two seasons on the varsity baseball team and won a state title with the team. After high school Gearing started his collegiate baseball career at Saginaw Valley State.
He played one season at Saginaw in 2019 before transferring to Lansing Community College. At Lansing Gearing only played one game in the shortened 2020 season.
After the short stint at Lansing, Gearing decided to transfer one more time and decided to go to Nicholls for the 2021 season. Gearing has chosen to stay at Nicholls and is now in his third season with Colonels.
Gearing and the Colonels take on the University of Memphis in a series starting Friday, Mar. 3 at 6:00 p.m. and ending with a game on Sunday, Mar. 5 that starts at 1:00. All three games of the series will be played at Nicholls.
