“Hocus Pocus 2” Review

Hocus+Pocus+2+Review

Hocus Pocus 2 was initially released on Disney+ on September 30, 2022. The sequel is an hour and 47 minutes long.

The film starts when the Sanderson sisters were just teenagers and explains their origin story. It shows why the sisters were shunned from their community, and how they discovered they were witches.

A time skip occurs, and the story refocuses on two teenagers who have accidentally brought the Sanderson sisters back to their modern day town of Salem by unknowingly lighting the Black Flame Candle. They must find a way to control the sisters from causing chaos in their city on All Hallow’s Eve.

I personally enjoyed the movie. I believe it wasn’t as good as the original Hocus Pocus, but it was a fun sequel attempting to modernize it. I think that they may have been trying to make it more appealing to the younger generation because the film is more comedy focused than the first one. Older adult fans who have enjoyed the first movie may not like the film because of how different it is from the original.

There was a lot of hype on social media about the release of this film, mainly from returning fans of the original Hocus Pocus, which is already considered a classic Halloween movie. The Sanderson Sisters made an iconic comeback, which made me super happy. I was also satisfied by the film’s ending, which is a very important aspect of any film in my opinion.

I would rate Hocus Pocus 2 a 6/10. I think the creative spin was cute for kids and children and encouraged them to watch the original movie. It was very humorous and very family friendly.  Overall, I feel like the movie was a success for Disney, and it made a lot of fans happy.
