“Obi-Wan Kenobi” Trailer Breakdown

Obi-Wan+Kenobi+Trailer+Breakdown

The “Obi-Wan Kenobi” trailer released on this year’s Disney Investor Day. The trailer marks the first appearance of Ewan McGregor in the titular role since 2005’s “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.” The trailer is full of exciting reveals, so let’s break it down.

Tatooine

It would be remiss to not talk about everything happening on the desert planet of Tatooine. Kenobi can be seen adapting to his solitude, watching over and protecting Luke Skywalker. It will be interesting to see how this show deals with Kenobi’s internal demons as he lost nearly everyone that he cares about from the previous installments. Also, Luke can be seen wearing a helmet similar to that of his father, Anakin. This was also the helmet that Anakin was wearing in “The Phantom Menace”, which is when Kenobi first met Anakin. This was a nice parallel, as Luke reminds Kenobi a lot of his former Padawan. Luke’s uncle, Owen, also appeared in the trailer. It appears as though he comes face-to-face with a new Inquisitor, Reva.

Inquisitors

The Inquisitors, or Jedi Hunters, were featured in the trailer just as much as Kenobi. It will be interesting to see their roles in the series. It seems that Kenobi will travel off-world to deal with the Inquisitors. The Grand Inquisitor from the “Rebels” animated series also appeared, much to fans’ criticism. Fans of the franchise often find anything to criticize. In this case, it is the design of the Grand Inquisitor. While there is a bit of a difference from the two designs, this doesn’t seem serious enough to criticize. Nevertheless, the addition of the Inquisitors is interesting, especially since Darth Vader was largely teased for this project.

Darth Vader?

While Vader himself did not appear in the trailer, his signature breathing could be heard towards the end of the trailer. An official still image was released, showing Vader in an Imperial chamber. Hayden Christensen was confirmed to return as the fallen Skywalker. Both McGregor and Christensen have teased the inevitable clash between these two characters, so this will definitely be the most anticipated moment in the series.
