Hairspray the Musical is on campus!
Nicholls State University Department of Music in collaboration with Rhodes&Rhodes Productions opened “Hairspray the Musical” last weekend with a series of sold-out shows.
Thibodaux High School graduates DJ and Lauren Rhodes recently founded the new and upcoming production company Rhodes&Rhodes. They have spent their entire lives immersed in the world of theatre and are excited to resurrect one of their high school shows.
“This has been one of the most amazing casts I’ve ever worked with! Dedicated, talented, and resilient,” Lauren said. “They love what they do, and it shows on the stage; their hard work deserves all the support that it has been receiving.”
This Tony Award winning musical continues to be one of the most widely produced musicals today. It follows lead Tracy Turnblad (Nicholls junior education major Peyton Larousse) as she works to end television segregation in the middle of the 60’s. The musical is full wit and charm, and it has a wonderful message of acceptance. Tracy’s story teaches us to look past skin color and to fight for the rights of everyone.
“It has really been such a joy to work on this show with such an amazing cast and such wonderful directors,” Larousse said. “I am so proud of everyone who put in time and effort to make this show what it is; our hard work has paid off!”
The show pulls in a cast from many local high schools and college campuses.
Come out and support our local theatre in the Mary and Al Danos Theater in Talbot Hall on Nicholls Campus. The final two shows will be on June 19 and 20 at 2:00 pm.
In order to reserve your tickets, call the Department of Music at (985)-448-4600 or (985)-448-4605. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $15 for students with an ID to be presented upon pickup.
