Five tips to make sure we graduate

Five+tips+to+make+sure+we+graduate

Dear fellow graduates,

Yes, I agree that this situation is not the best. This is not the ideal way we imagined finishing our degrees and being rewarded for all our hard work. However, we’re still here, and we still made it to this point. So, instead of wallowing, let’s embrace these last few weeks and finish strong. Although it has felt like an eternity, our last semester as undergrads is finally coming to an end. We just have to make sure to finish.  Here are five tips to help wrap up this long-lasting process.

CHECK EVERYTHING:

For those of us that are used to being reminded of things on a daily basis by attending class, please check, check and recheck everything, for your own sanity. Check your Moodle page, check your Gmail and even check with classmates to make sure you are not forgetting anything. With rapid changes being made every day, little things can easily slip through the cracks of endless emails, and then, you are left with a zero on an assignment that could have easily been accomplished.

ONE THING AT A TIME:

If you are feeling overwhelmed, you are not alone. Whether it is school duties or other responsibilities, take one thing at a time. It is much better to finish one assignment and then begin another, rather than having five tabs open on your laptop, only to get nowhere. If exams are causing stress, start making study guides, and take it one term at a time.

WORK WHEN YOU’RE AT YOUR BEST:

These days, everyone has their negative moments. We are feeling cramped and stuck, and maybe it is just me, but we feel as though we are slowly losing our minds. My advice is to work when you feel it. Take advantage of the good days and be productive. On not-so-good-days, walk away, take breaks, go outside and then, return ready to get some work done.

JUST STAY POSITIVE:

While I know we are hearing this everywhere, we really do control our own outlook. We can be pessimistic and aggravated, or we can find the bright side to things. Zoom may be annoying at times, but on May 16, I’ll be using it to celebrate graduation with my former roommates. I’m bringing the champagne.

APPRECIATE THAT WE GET TO FINISH:

Overall, guys, make sure you get to call yourself a Nicholls graduate in a few short weeks. Push through; we got this!
