To kick off Nicholls State University’s homecoming week, SPA hosted its annual Homecoming Breakfast and Dance in Galliano Dining Hall on Monday night. Students received free entry with their colonel card, where breakfast was served in the cafeteria, followed by a party in the Cotillion Ballroom. Nicholls President Jay Clune was there with his wife, greeting students at the door.

Although there was plenty of breakfast food, consisting of grits, eggs, sausages, biscuits and pancakes, there was little sitting room left. The cafeteria was packed with all kinds of students; some even committed to the fun by wearing pajamas.

After finishing off that last pancake or taking that last sip of hot chocolate, it was time to head into the ballroom. Students received headphones to participate in the silent disco. With two DJs on stage, students could flip back and forth between channels, jamming to whichever beat they preferred. It was clear that the students did not only come for breakfast, as the ballroom was full of students turning up, quietly of course, because of the headphones.

Monday night was only the beginning of the fun-filled and spirited homecoming week. Some other events this week that students can look forward to are:

  • Alive at 5 Concert at 5 p.m. on Thursday in the rear parking lot of the Recreational Center
  • NAACP Homecoming Comedy Show at 8:30 p.m., Thursday, in the Cotillion Ballroom
  • Pirogue Races, starting at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Nicholls Fountain, followed by the Homecoming Barbeque at Elkins Circle
  • Homecoming Tailgating Games at 8 p.m. at the Manning Football Field on Friday
  • Football Game Giveaway/Spirit Competition from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the student tailgate area on Saturday
