Donald Trump wins in Louisiana Republican Primary

GOP front-runner Donald Trump continued his winning streak on Saturday when he raked in a Super Saturday victory in Louisiana.

Republican Party of Louisiana Chairman Roger F. Villere congratulated Trump on his victory in Louisiana.

“More than 100,000 Louisiana voters made their voices heard tonight by sending a clear message that they are fed up with the political establishment and want to see real change in Washington by electing Donald Trump as President,” Villere said. “Louisiana Trump supporters are extremely patriotic and enthusiastic citizens. They have our thanks and congratulations, also.”

According to the Louisiana Secretary of State, 36.3 percent of Louisiana Republicans voted in the primary while 23.3 percent of Democrats voted. The LAGOP website reported a record Republican voter turnout, with 301,169 voters on Saturday compared to 161,169 in 2008 and 186,410 in 2012.

As of March 6, 2016, the Associated Press’s Delegate Tracker showed Trump in the lead with 384 delegates. Ted Cruz followed close behind with 300 delegates, while Marco Rubio and John Kasich fell behind with 151 and 37 delegates respectively.

Cruz and Trump each received 18 Louisiana delegates and Rubio received five. In order to win the presidential nomination, Republican candidates need 1,237 delegates.

The next Republican primaries will take place on March 8 in Hawaii, Idaho, Michigan, and Mississippi. The National Republican Convention in Washington D.C., where each state sends delegates to vote for its preferred candidate will take place on March 12.
