Early vote, now through Saturday

Early voting for Louisiana’s Mar. 5 Presidential primary and municipal elections began last Saturday and will continue through Saturday, Feb. 27.

According to the Louisiana Secretary of State website, you do not need a reason to vote early, and anyone registered to vote can do so at their parish’s registrar of voters office.

Before hitting the polls, though, make sure you will actually be able to cast your vote. According to WDSU.com, the presidential primary is “the only race in the state where an ‘R’ or ‘D’ next to your party affiliation matters.”

Only registered Republicans will be able to vote for one of the many candidates, while those registered Democrat will be able to vote for one of the two candidates. Members of the Green Party, Peace Party and those who are no party will not be able to vote in either primary.

The Louisiana Secretary of State’s office has a smartphone app available for both iPhones and Androids called “Geaux Vote.” Through this app, users can receive text reminders on election days, view their sample ballots and find their polling locations.
